Catching up on some Le Random editorials (by @monkantony_tez) after a hectic period with Raster launch + family affairs
Starting with "Larva Labs on Computation's Strangeness" 👇

I have to admit, I have been skeptical of the upcoming Larva Labs release on Art Blocks
Aesthetically, it doesn't seem to cover new ground, and conceptually, the "quine" concept has been explored before
Most notably, Swiss artist Andreas Gysin (@andreasgysin) released an eight-part series of quine artworks on Tezos, called the svg.svg ("Code is..") series
Here is a video recording of svg6.svg"Code is alive.":
By centring their newest project around quines, my mind unavoidably makes the comparison with Gysin's work, which might set unrealistically high expectations for Larva Labs
When code is the medium, Andreas is a master, and only few artworks can hold up against his
But after reading the interview with Peter, and thinking about the broader context "Quine" is being released in, I feel a little bit different about the project
The Larva Labs duo was highly aware that they are the original inspiration behind the Art Blocks and that they had been invited to "complete" the Curated collection by Snowfro himself
Art Blocks from the start uniquely has been about code as an artistic medium
That's why the platform stood out among NFT platforms and has left such a huge impact on contemporary art
Even if "Quine" doesn't feel uniquely compelling as an individual artwork to me
It does feel like the perfect final Art Blocks Curated project, foregrounding the medium and making viewers contemplate what is truly special about AB[500]
A beautiful "ode to code" to complete an incredible
500-part series
Good luck & congratulations to all involved 👏
